"Louisiana Swamp" oil on canvas painting by Lila Norman Shelby (Louisiana/New York 1900-1994). Signed lower right, in a gilt frame.

Lila Shelby is known for still life, portrait and bayou landscape paintings. She attended the Arts Student League and Columbia University, and from her studio at 63rd Street and Broadway, she painted hundreds of portraits of military dignitaries, university presidents, bank officials and members of affluent families. Her works were featured at the New York World's Fair Colorama Gallery in 1950. She was a life member of the Arts Student League, and a member of the National Association of Women Artists.
