Rachel V. Hartley (1884–1955) was an acclaimed American Impressionist and Social Realist painter born into a distinguished New York artistic lineage as the granddaughter of Tonalist master George Inness. After training at the Art Students League of New York and in Paris, she went on to become a faculty instructor at the League and a co-founder of the Clearwater Museum in Florida. Influenced by the Ashcan School, her work is celebrated for its masterful handling of vibrant light, coastal landscapes, and relaxed, dignified depictions of local Southern culture. Her expressive pieces, such as Glory Road, capture the unique regional atmosphere and social landscape of the early-to-mid 20th century.
