While enrolled at the Art Students League, NY from 1896 to 1899, her instructors included William Merritt Chase, Helen Smillie, and Rhoda Holmes Nicholls.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIn 1900, Willis left for Paris to study at the Collège de France and at the Louvre. Back at home, she was one of the original members of the Sketch Club of the Carolina Art Association, founded in \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e1912.
